Zweenfurth Leipzig Family & Friends

Last night we indicated to Ute that we would be ready for breakfast around 9'ish. She indicated that 'whenever' would be fine.

This morning Barney thought 7am would be a good time to wake us up. I tried to muffle him and desperately tried to get more sleep. About 9'ish we thought we would start to get ready, by 9:30 we got a mildly-insistent call from Ute downstairs 'breakfast is ready'.

When we went downstairs they were waiting for us to eat breakfast together - so with Ute and son Hans we had bread with a selection of home made preserves.

After breakfast we went for a walk around Zweenfurth. It was raining...again.

A longer walk was abandoned and instead we went to see Miranda, my fathers godmother. Miranda was home and cooking when we came by. We sat chatting with her for about half an hour before we had to leave for our next appointment.

For lunch, Egon had invited us out to his favourite restaurant, Gasthof Zur Krone in the nearby town of Beucha. We had tentatively made a time of 12:00 pm with him, however at breakfast Ute had said she and Hans would also come and that we would aim for 12:30'ish.

After we were back from our walk there was no one out and about in the house. We went upstairs and around 12:45pm I heard Egon call up to me in an insistent tone 'Can we go now'. We really need to make firm times with people and stick to it!

The restaurant is one we have been to before. We were last here two years ago at almost the same time of year. This time if year is 'Spargel' season - Asparagus. Therefore the same thing was on the menu and I think we had the same meal again - Spargel soup and  'Spargel mit Schnitzel'. All very tasty. This was Egon's treat and he handsomely tipped the waitress and she protested that it was too much, but eventually accepted.

Egon wasn't particularly well during lunch and so we took him back to the house. Today would have been (Egon's wife / Ute's sister) Ruth's birthday, and so after dropping Egon back at the house we went to visit Ruth's grave where Ute placed a fresh plant.

After the cemetery visit we briefly popped in to see Ute's daughter Anna and her children. This was a quick visit and we were soon back home.

In the evening we went to the house of my fathers friend Barbara. Her son Martin and his girlfriend also live there and we all sat together having some coffee and catching up. They then took us out into inner city Leipzig for some dinner. On the menu at this restaurant was a pizza for four people and so we got that, it was  a gigantic thing.

Nordine was the odd one out and ordered a small pasta - still full from spargel mit schnitzel!

Our language skills were put to the test today as 95% of the conversation was conducted in German...and we understood 10% of it! (joke) :P
